WASHINGTON, D.C. (ANS – June 16, 2017) – More than 80 Christian media and ministry leaders from across the nation – and some from other parts of the world – met for two days at the Washington Dulles (Virginia) Airport Marriott to provide action-oriented input on the next National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) Convention, the 75th annual gathering of media professionals.

mi 2017Committeemeetings 06 16 2017Members of the NRB Advisory Councils and NRB Standing Committees gathered last week to plan for the next NRB International Christian Media Convention, Proclaim 18, which will be held February 27-March 2, 2018, in Nashville, Tennessee.

An NRB Staff update stated that in welcoming the meeting participants on the first night, NRB President & CEO Dr. Jerry A. Johnson provided updates from the association headquarters, including NRB’s first year in the new office in Washington, D.C.

“This new office has really helped us be more effective,” he said. “We’ve come into D.C. with a larger footprint, and we’re feeling it. It’s working. There’s just so much happening.”

“I think it’s been a good year when it comes to … the influence that NRB has had, and especially is having now,” he continued, later noting that NRB was featured on the front page of the June 7 issue of The Washington Times. “I want you to know that we’ve been able to have a good, increased, [and] vital impact,” Johnson added.

He then revealed the program cover, logo, colors, and verse for Proclaim 18, while noting that the cover is still a work in progress.

The scripture selected for the 2018 Convention is drawn from Psalm 89:1, and states “I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations ....”

“One of the reasons we picked this verse is … this the 75th annual Convention coming up,” Johnson stated. “So the idea of faithfulness to all generations we think fits the 75th Convention.”

“We want to celebrate that, and we are going to celebrate that,” he added.

Johnson also summarized some of the changes to expect for Proclaim 18 and set the tone for the meetings the next day.

Like Conventions in recent years, Proclaim 18 will take place during the work week, to allow for more pastors and church leaders to participate. But instead of running from Monday to Thursday, the next Convention will take place Tuesday to Friday.

While there will be speakers and events catering to professionals from each of the main industries, the main sessions will highlight the convergence of media, with keynote speakers who touch on a variety of different media platforms.

Another highlight of the Convention will be a celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the modern state of Israel.

After the welcome reception, members of the Advisory Councils and Standing Committees broke out the next day into their respective areas – Church Media, Digital Media, Film, Intercollegiate (iNRB), International, Radio, and Television – and discussed various Convention program elements, including the networking events, schedule, speakers, and sponsors. They also made specific plans and assignments for the upcoming Convention and for the NRB Media Awards program.
